Hi, all! I’m Jordann. You’ve likely seen my face and my buzzed head in emails or class promos over the last few months. My partner, pup, and I recently settled into our new surroundings here in Sedona, AZ, and it felt like the right time to finally, properly introduce myself (and shamelessly promote my newest class offering).
Whether I’ve seen you in class, sent you a recording, or simply been a name in your inbox, I want to say thank you for being here.
My first offering with Wilderness & Co. is a 30-minute midday practice combining slow movement with Internal Family Systems (IFS) -informed check-ins. A mouthful, I know. I was hesitant when I first learned about this approach, too. You’re telling me I have different “parts” with their own thoughts, feelings, and ways of showing up? But then I realized I’d been saying things like “Part of me doesn’t want to…” or “Part of me feels so torn…” my whole life.
If you’ve ever said something similar, you’re already familiar with the idea of parts work. And it doesn't have to be big or earth-shattering. Sometimes it’s as simple as saying, “Hey, list-maker, I need you to back off for a bit while I do yoga.” Or “Hey, judgmental part? Can we quiet down for a few minutes?” It’s about acknowledging what’s showing up with a little curiosity and compassion rather than telling yourself to be quiet or shut up. Turns out, the soft approach usually works a lot better for me.
My newest offering is a 60-minute Yin practice, and it brings me back to my favorite instructor’s famous line: “Gentle is the new advanced.” Some people love big, flowy classes: one breath per pose, up and down again and again. That’s just not my style. When I found Yin, it shook up my entire approach to my practice. As I’ve learned, settling onto the mat and allowing ourselves to soften can be the hardest part. So why not try it together?
In this practice, we’ll use whatever support you need - blankets, pillows, bolsters, blocks - anything you have handy. We’ll find the right version of each shape, and then we’ll melt. Literally. Let the weight of the body sink into the mat. Let go of some of that constant gripping we carry throughout the day. And remember your big, full breaths. This isn’t to say we won’t find “challenging” shapes from time to time - but we’ll work to navigate them with more ease.
As a hypermobile person, letting go of that “hold” was scary at first. But learning that deeper isn’t always better, that support is a good thing, and that I’m always in charge of my own practice has completely changed my relationship with my body.
We’ll experience silence together. We’ll breathe together. We’ll explore a more grounded way to end our day together.
I hope to see you there.
